Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

but i bet not as easy as on the Arc. you just had to take the picture (in AutoScene), the phone did the rest of the job. no need to try finding ways around. You know what i mean? btw what's the best setting for night shot?. I guess that's all we can do since there's no sight of an update to fix it.

I am so dissapointed in this phone. All i can think is "why didnt i go with the galaxy S3"? Im even typing this on a Galaxy Note, because my Xperia's battery is flat for the SECOND time today!!!! My "12MP" camera takes forever to focus... IF at all... The pictures are grainy even in the day... And if any type of sunlight comes into the picture it whites out that whole part. I was so exited for this phone and its "amazing camera". That the reason i bought it. No matter what i do in the camera settings, and im embarrased to say this, i cant get it to match the quality of my friends 8MP samsung. Especially at night or in a club. I dont know what to do. I dont even know anyone stupid enough to trade me for something else... I hope ICS will make it better... When it is eventually available for this phone in SA. Though i really doubt it...

Disgusted.

to be completely honest I don't have a better camera experience with the Arc, in fact I have a better experience with the S

I took about 20,000 pictures and videos with the Arc and I'm up to 10,000 with the S so I can tell you about experience Dizzy_Face for dark settings it all depend on light sources (if any) and how steady is your hand, just like with any other press and shoot compact camera

You think the auto focus on the S' works better than the Arc?

I don't think it's better but the shutter it's a lot easier to press than on the Arc therefore you can halfpress it easier and focus quite fast also you don't get as many blurry shots as with the Arc bc you have to press it really hard

but that's me, I prefer to use the shutter than the screen

yes, the shutter wasn't the best on the Arc. but i used to take pics with touch capture, wich i can't do on the S with same results. i guess im gonna have to get use to take pictures with the shutter for a better focused pics.

Well I guess best thing to do is SELL and buy HTC, Samsung or any other even local companies like Cherry Mobile provides better customer service, better quality of phones.

I am Xperia S user for almost 3 months now and really tired of

1. WAITING for upgrades - UNPLANNED, NO ONE KNOW WHEN, NOT EVEN SONY STAFF .. PITY on SONY

2. Camera quality is really really poor

3. Worst battery life

When you call customer service all you hear is wait for upgrade and they wont tell you when the ugrade is coming, pretty laughable for such a giant company....

SELL THE PHONE, IF SOMEONE IS STUPID ENOUGH TO BUY IT....
