Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Dear Sony

I bought xperia s for the sole reason of it having 12MP camera day light shots are no doubt really good but at night  we actually face the real problem especially with red eye (focussing already mentioned) reduction and for some reason red eye occurs only for certain ppl and not for all and if i take a pic without flash well wats the point in havin flash then!!!

Well some pics in night did come out well but it needed lot of settings and takes longer to focus and with a slight movement it again starts focussing and while clicking it either comes out blurr or clear red eyed image

Hope ICS update is rolled out soon and all this bugs are fixed up!!!!

Sony have sold us a product that does not live up to there advertising, does this mean we can take it back and get a refund?

Worst part of the Camera problem is that there's been no definitive answer from Sony as to what is causing the problem, whether it's hardware or software and more importantly, whether the fix will come in ICS.

The silence and lack of even the most basic of information, such as "it's being fixed", is making me think it's not a priority for Sony, maybe not even a concern.

It's all well and good Sony CS stating the info's been passed on to the Sony developers, but without further information of even the most basic kind, we're all left here lost with a product that can't handle the most basic of tasks, that being, taking photos in focus.

Sony developers need to have the basic decency to let the customers know at least this big problem is being worked on and a fix is possible at least and that this isn't a hardware limitation that can't be fixed at all!

it has to be a software limitation but it seems that sony is too busy releasing more LOW END devices instead of addressing all issues.

Xperia Miro & Xperia Tipo

Does the market really need more low end phones?

they will have ICS with a 800MHz CPU and 512 RAM but they can't deliver a smooth ICS update to the 2011 Xperias when this (2011 Xperias have 1GHz CUP and 512 of RAM)? moreover, Sony knows that 512MB it's not enough for a smooth experience

Uliwooly - the first real good answer from you.

Honestly - you have done your best to defend this product but all the evidence shows its software/hardware problem

I have sold mine and will be waiting for something else on the market.

Will I get the new one out in Aug.. maybe . but this time I will wait until I read a good review and see the results from the camera.

Sony have made a big mistake on this phone, release a "premium" phone that never misses a picture, but failed on all of these accounts. The support from Sony has been non existant, users are frustrated, embarised, and fed up with this phone.

To save face they should do a recall, but I dont think they will do this  - they have lost me as a user and I feel sorrt for all those users who are now starting to experience this problem. This is my last post - I have sold my phone, I started this thread.. I would have hoped sony would have resolved this and helped the thousands of users who need this phone sorting out.

For those of you with the phone.. I hope something soon is done to fix this, as they will loose you and everyone you know as potential customers.

Even I am facing from poor camera problems. (I am from India - LT26i ).

Worst part is, in addition to poor focus and red eye problem, my camera images also have a slightly higher shade of yellow. I compared my images with other phones and they were far superior. Hoping that it does gets resolved with ICS upgarde.

I only have 10 days with the S, im very disappointed to with the camera. What I dont understand is why they dont say NADA, not a word of the problem. We are losing nothing here, It's Sony how is gonna lose lot of costumers
