Camera in use by another application

I have an Xperia Z3+ which has been working fine up until 10 days ago. Now whenever I try to use the camera it opens and after a couple of seconds it freezes, remains black and a pop up says Error - The camera may be in use by another application. Please close the other application and try again.

The camera app needs to be forced closed. If I'm quick enough to press the button for the front-facing camera everything works fine although when I press it again (to go to the back camera) it'll freeze and give the error message again. To date, I've done the following:

  • Restarted the phone
  • Ensured no other apps are currently running
  • Factory reset the device
  • Run it in safe mode
  • Disabled the Google application
  • Repaired the device using the Xperia Companion
  • Ensure the device is updated to the latest firmware using the PC companion application.

My phone is not rooted (nor will it ever be!) and the version details are as follows:

Android version: 6.0.1

Android security patch level: 1 April 2016

Baseband version: 8994-FAAAANAZQ-00014-26

Kernel version: 3.10.84-perf-g4a67e86 Builduser@BuildHost #1 Mon Apr 25 17:38:07 2016

Build Number: 32.2.A.0.224

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Having exactly the same problem with my Z3+, and my issues started around the same time as they did for craighayton, have also tried all of the above,

Had hoped today's software patch would have fixed things but alas not,

My version details are as follows, incase they are helpful, hoping we can get to the bottom of this:

Hi @Skipp,

I am sorry to hear that.

Did you have it sent to an authorized service center to have a technician examine it? If not, I recommend contacting your Local support in order to be assisted in doing so.
