Hello.
I've experienced alot of issues with my camera button on my Xperia and I'm starting to think it's hardware related. The camera button won't take any pictures, it'll just bring the camera to "focus mode". It won't start the camera when on startscreen or in any other mode either. Anyone else experiencing the same issues?
Cheers Mattias.
Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
There are actually two modes with the camera button. When you press it down slightly, it will start to focus and when you see that the camera is focusing, you need to press it down harder to take a picture.
Regarding that you cannot starat the camera with the button, could you check so the setting for "Quick launch" is not Off? You can do this by start the Camera application > Menu button (three vertical dots) > Tools tab > Quick launch > Choose "Launch only" for example.
Hello.
Yes. I'm aware that there is (or in my case was) two modes when pressing the camera button. The problem is that it's only the focus mode that's working now. It doesn't matter how hard I press, I only get to the focus mode. I guess that quick launch activates at the same position as taking a picture since it's not working in any mode. That's why I'm guessing hardware error. I've not dropped the phone or exposed it to water either.
Then I suggest that you boot your phone into safe mode to see if you experience the same behaviour:

Otherwise, I suggest that you perform a software repair on your unit via Update Service:

Download and install SUS at your PC, follow the instructions that appear.
But if there is no improvement, you should visit nearest service center so a technician can examine your unit. You can contact your local support team for further information about nearest service center and/or how to proceed with this in the best possible way:

The same problem for me, I am with the following software and firmware:
Android: 4.4.4
Build number: 14.4.A.0.108
