Caller ID problem...

Good day all!

I have this issue about the caller id being reported to me incorrectly. These numbers is coming from landlines only. No problem if the caller is coming from a cellphone.

I have many of this erroneous caller ID, let's look at one sample, yesterday I got a caller, his ID registred as 020-240-441, I missed the call and I tried to call him back, the phones says that the number I dialed is incorrect. I know this is one of those problematic numbers. Luckily the caller called again and this time, I asked for his number. His actual number is 024-044-177. I saved the correct number into my phonebook and asked the caller to try and call me again. Guess what? The incorrect number is still showing up.

I investigated the matter and here is what I got; those erronous caller IDs share something in common... they are repeating the area code. The correct one should be (02) 404-4177 what happened was that it registered as (0202) 404-41.

Is this the phone's fault, or a settings I can used to fix this?

My phone is an Xperia Neo V, running on the stable GB .62.

Typically caller ID is controlled by the phone company (usually the source/caller but I suppose your carrier who passes it along could also muddle it). Could you have the person whose number muddles on your phone call one of your friends who is on the same carrier but who has a different phone to see how it appears?  Then you could try the same thing to someone who is another carrier. That would allow you to narrow it down to either being a carrier vs a phone problem.

It was this particular carrier. they won't fix the issue and I can do anything about it.
