1.Try to disable microphone noise suppression in call settings. Also, disable slow talk if enabled.

2.Try settings-apps-all-sound enhancements,force stop and clear data.Restart.

I too had this problem. I discovered it on the same day as unpacking my device. In every single call I had complaints from the person on the other end about how they couldn't hear me properly, i.e. muffled/low sound. I suspect this may have something to do with the secondary microphone, but that's just a guess. Anyway, returned the phone, and will hopefully get a replacement.

I am a very unhapppy owner of a Z2.

I've been very surprised with all the issues I've been experiencing and with what I've been reading.

I was half-convinced I had a faulty unit, but from what I've been reading everyone else is more or less experiencing the same issues.

Of course, waiting for the magical firmware update to become available (I'm in Greece) hoping it will fix everything,  without an ETA is ridiculous.

My issues so far are, in order of significance to me:

1) Missed calls - althought the phone *seems* to have a signal, people that call me get frequently a "subscriber not available" message. This is not a carrier issue, as I've tested it extensively in an office setting, where all of my coworkers phones work ok during my outage periods (which are only restored with a reboot)

2) Voice quality - in one word, terrible. People tell me I sound muffled and unclear. I've tried with and without a handset, and with and without mic noice surpression and voice enhancement, with not much improvement. What sounds worst is using the phone without a handset and without noise surpression and voice enhancements.

I suspect this could be partly related to the humangous size of the phone and the way I hold it, and I've tried various positions, but overall it's a pain

3) Camera Overheating: 4K and 120FPS video are practically unusable, as I can't shoot for more than 2 minutes before the camera app shutsdown due to overheating. This was a real shocker, as it is one of the most advertised features of the phone, and no-one seems to have tested it properly.

4) Picture quality: the camera app in the default so-called "superior auto" mode takes really crappy pictures. In order to get any half-decent pictures you need to get into manual mode and fiddle with many settings, so it's not very easy to take quick snapshots.

5) A lag which I don't understand considering the specs of the phone, when opening most apps (phone, mail, chrome, etc). It's not a deal breaker, but again something strange which doesn't seem to be there in other similar phones.

Does anyone have any advise for me? Is the new firmware going to be so great and will fix these issues?
Even if it is, from what I understand it can take weeks or months untill my carrier makes it available, so what can I do?

Thanks,

Harry

I don't know who or why buried my message in here.

Is this the way customer issues are dealt with?

Please don't tell me my post was relavent to this message, as 95% of the messages in this forum are all about bugs.

Hiding user messages wont't make the bugs go away...

Another issue I found is with the proximity sensor.

Althouth it seems to work fine (it passed the diagnostics and when I do simple tests by moving it towards and away from my ear), during long phone calls the phone seems to do some sort of power saving and after a while the screen remains black when moving the phone away from my ear.

I'm pretty sure someone will bury this message like my other one somewhere, so please if someone can please help before my message disappears, I will greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

I'm new here but it looks like I should have read this forum before buying the Z2.

I'm seeing most of the above bugs in my new Z2. It's embarassing when callers can't hear me properly - exact same issues with call clarity. Outdoors in a busy street it's often difficult for me to hear the other person clearly. I've had phones since the before GSM devices - the old analogue mobiles used to drift but at least you could get through a call with a decent signal. This thing is pants.

Mine also times out to a black screen during a call meaning I have to unlock the screen again just to end the call.

Ringer volume is far too low to hear, notifications are also too low, can't turn off the notification lamp at night when charging etc.

Another gripe is that it locks itself in the car when connected to a hands free kit. Therefore I have to enter my PIN number to use the handset. The Moto G (bargain bin Android) has the option to stay unlocked when connected to a trusted device.

I'm thinking I've made a very big mistake trusting Sony - we use lots of Sony hardware at work (video production) - I expected much better.
