Bluetooth problem after update 2.3.4

I updated my Arc this week from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4

So far so good. However, eversince I have an issue with my bluetooth connection with my car.

The phone connects to the car without any problems and transfers the phonebook information. I can even make normal calls. But after a while (sometimes seconds, sometimes minutes) the connection is lost and the car can not "talk" to the phone anymore. If I then touch any button on the phone, the connection re-establishes itself and I can make calls via bluetooth again.

Anybody has the same problem and/or knows any solution?

PS: never had this problem with 2.3.3 !

Thx !

May be there is some sort of bug but I have not experienced it. My phone is also on 2.3.4 and I also have a car bluetooth unit.

Can you try to perform a software/firmwware repair using PC Companion
Connect your phone to the PC via the USB cable
The repair option on PC Companion (Support Zone --> Update --> Repair).

If that did not work, can you try the SE Update service
http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1315209439/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.9.6.exe
Download, install and launch the update service. Follow the onscreen prompts.

Please backup your phone data and settings before proceeding.

Tried all this but it didn't work. problem persists.

I get the feeling it has to do with sleep mode. The problem only appears when the phone goes dark and in sleep mode. I can not make calls untill I awake the phone by pushing either the home button or on/off switch.

If somebody else calls me though, the phone awakes by itself and can be picked up by the bluetooth device.

I know for sure this never was a problem with the previous software as I used it for months without a problem.

The bluetooth device is a build in device in a BMW 5 series build 2010.

Any other ideas?

You may be right. This could be the new behaviour of 2.3.4 in an attempt to conserve battery life.

Just curious, have you installed any power ssving apps?

If you have some of these apps will turn off wireless functions like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc if it detects that the user is not actively using it.

No, I am not using any of such apps so this unfortunately can not be the problem. I wonder if I am the only one experiencing this issue? I see nobody else reacting with similar problems on the forum, so I wonder if it is a malfunction in my hardware?

I personally do not think you hardware has malfunctioned. More likely it could be the new 2.3.4 firmware is causing this issue since as you said it was working fine in 2.3.3.

If you really want to test this out you can do a manual downgrade to 2.3.3 and check if the problem is gone.

Obviously the downgrade is an unofficial process but you can always update again if you wish.

A couple of things to consider :

1) Backup your phone data and settings if you are thinking of downgrading the firmware.

2) Any operator version of your phone's firmware will be lost.

If interested to perform the downgrade refer to this post : http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/20095

I have exactly the same problem: BMW + arc + after the 2.3.4 upgrade, the bluetooth disconnects when the handset goes into its sleep mode. Pressing the button makes the phone reconnect - but that is totally pointless. Worked 100% when on 2.3.3.

Did you have any luck in getting a solution?

Hello,

I have exactly the same issue as described above by sparlist (Toyota Prius + Arc).

It worked fine with 2.3.3.

I have not found any settings to disable the bluetooth power saving mode as for WiFi (press the right button when the WiFi tab is displayed to access the advanced options).

The question is therefore still open and not "assumed answered".

This new "feature" requires the phone to be awaken prior to handle a call which  is really DANGEROUS while driving.

THANKS SE FOR CORRECTION.

Best regards.
