i have both bbc ,itv player apps from play store on my phone. they used to work fine, but now when i try and use them i have a problem, i can browse and select the program get the start loading screen then get black screen only. it does not work even if i go throught internet browser as well now. any suggetions please.
This would mean that they have made a change to the way the embed the content on their site and unfortunately you would need to wait for the developer of the applications in question to roll out an update to their app to resolve this.

i have looked at the bbc website and it seems that the adobe flash player is needed to run it but it will not load on to my arc s. is there a point in the future we can down load flash playerto runn these service.s
If you are running ICS 4.0.4 you should try to update or re-install flash player from the Play Store. If you're running Jelly Bean 4.1.1 then you will need to get BBC Media Player from the Play Store as Flash is no longer supported. I would hope that ITV and others are working on a fix for this.
I have exactly the same problem, arc s on 4.0.3.
Have installed/reinstalled flash player 11 also BBC iplayer and BBC media player.
Problem occured after upgrading to ICS.
Just to add.
This problem is most probably due to how the BBC applies DRM (Digital Rights Management) to their material.
I find news items work OK, the problem is with the Catch Up programmes
The fix will have to come from the BBC, but I would be interested to hear if anyone in the UK with an arc s upgraded
to ICS can run the Catch Up programmes.

I have exactly the same problem. After numerous attempts to get iPlayer working I reinstalled Android 4.0.3 and then reinstalled media player and iplayer - still did not work. I then filtered the comments on the BBC iPlayer download from the Play Store and there are dozens of Xperia Arc S owners with the same problem. Not one was able to offer a solution. I sent an email to the BBC about it but I'm not expecting a reply. I think Sony should put pressure to bear on the BBC to resolve this as some owners are likely to change models at the next phone purchase.
I've got the same problem since the recent BBC iPlayer update. Used to work very well before then, but now the iPlayer is simply not working. Can see the page, seems to start downloading and then the black screen.
I have emailed the BBC and to their credit, they have come back to me... There response "I would recommend that you remove the app from your device and reinstall it from Google Play as we are unaware of a widespread fault"
I have done all of the above and also "repaired" my Arc S via the Sony PC companion...and still no luck.
There are several treads on the net regading this, but no satisfactory solution so far.
Very frustrating as the iPlayer is working perfectly on my wife's Xperia Play.
As steve51 is saying - Sony should put pressure on the BBC as I for one is not going to buy a Sony phone again if this cannot be sorted!
I wrote to sony the other day, here is the response.
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We apologise that the BBC iPlayer application is not working correctly on your Sony Ericssion Xperia Arc S.
We can advise that the BBC iPlayer uses Adobe Flash Player to stream the video files onto your handset. Adobe have recently announced that they are no longer support the Android operating system.
We can clarify that the BBC have launched an update for their iPlayer application which should help with regards to your issue. We would advise that you search for and download the "BBC Media Player" application from the Google Play store on your handset.
Please be aware that these applications are third party applications and not created by Sony . If you experience any problems with the applications you download please contact the applications creator as Sony will be unable to provide support for third party products.
Looks like we will have to wait for the BBC to sort this out but I am concerned that the BCC are not aware that there is an issue which is blatently evident when you read all the Xperia Arc S reviews in Google play.
Ive got the same issue on xperia pro mk16. Can choose a program to watch but it wont actually play them-just get a black screen. Have installed the bbc media player with the same outcome. Very disspointed
Uberj - This is posted elsewhere on the forum - it may help, go look at the url!
This question is Assumed Answered.
I am aware that many of us with Xperia Arc S (and I guess Xperia Arc) who recently upgraded to Android 4.0.3 have had major problems with the BBC iplayer no longer working. I sent an email of complaint into the BBC and about a week later this comment appeared on their website:
Sony Xperia Arc - This app does not work correctly once the device is upgraded to 4.0.3
We'll update this FAQ when we get further information on these known handset issues, including details on when a fix will go live.
See URL: http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/mobile_iplayer/mediaplayerfaq
So, they have finally admitted there is a problem - lets keep our fingers crossed.
