I saw a video showing a Z being reassembled. The second last step was the battery being replaced. This looked easy. The last step was the back cover being put on. It appeared to be a simple press fit. Can it be easily pried off again or is there a special technique required? Also how is the waterproof seal achieved? Is there just an elastomer strip around the edge or is the seal achieved some other way?
Come on Sony guys, give us the tutorial on battery replacement. (Hopefully we won't need it before the warranty runs out 😉
We do not recommend doing this. This will void the warranty and and could also be the case that the phone will no longer be water-resistant or dust-proof.
If you experience problems with the battery in the phone you can contact your local support for further information on how to deliver it in to a repair center:

Thanks for the warning Henke, but I would still like a tutorial on battery replacement and I am sure other users feel the same way.
How about a reply Sony, there is no need to be evasive about dissasembly and reassembly procedures. We are adults and can decide for ourselves if we want to risk voiding warranty or affecting the IP rating of the Z.
I don't have that type of information regarding how to replace the battery. I can only recommend you to contact your local support and repair center regarding battery replacement:

Other forums indicate that the Z backplate can be lifted easily with a suction cup after heating the perimeter with a hairdryer. Presumably reheating and pressing together again will form a watertight seal.
Has anyone out there successfully removed and refitted the back plate in this way? If so are there any traps for the unwary?
I won't ask the Sony guys to respond as I know they are very coy about this question.
