Battery/Charging Problem with new Ray

I bought a Ray today and after having it activated in the shop the battery died about half an hour later, before I was able to get home and put it down to charge.

Long story short, it has now been charging for roughly 9 hours and I have succeeded in turning it on once since it first shut down. It then flashed a charging symbol very quickly, showed me the home screen with the time where I was able to see it say 71% charged and then promptly turned off again and remained unresponsive.

It took it over 3 hours to even recognise that it was plugged in to the charger in the first place, and then it showed the red and then orange light.

Reading other threads I tried a couple of times to remove the battery and then turn it on etc. but to no avail. Since the last time I took the battery out, 3 or 4 hours ago now, it has been totally unresponsive apart from a little vibrate most of the time when I hold the power button.

I'm getting seriously concerned and honestly very impatient to use the phone!

Is this normal?! Am I being too impatient?

this seems to be a faulty battery or micro USB cable, or even the USB connector on your phone, here are few things to try to narrow down the problem

1) backup everything then

2) repair your phone with either PCC or Update Service

3) try a different micro USB cable (it doesn't have to be Sony Ericsson)

4) try a different wall charger

5) if possible test a different battery

2)   Update Service (SEUS)

Thanks for all the stuff about backing up, but I literally have managed to have this phone working for all of about 15 minutes and it was before the thing was even connected to my network so I haven't done much except sync my contacts with my SIM card!

I don't really see how I would repair the phone with the Update Service when I can't turn it on though?

I will try to find some other things to charge it with but I don't know anyone with a SE smart phone so I might not be successful.

Honestly, at the moment I am STRONGLY considering going back to the shop and asking them to replace it. I'm mainly wondering if this is normal... and it appears that it is not...

Is it likely to be just the battery or will I have to try a whole new phone?

Update Service its different than PCC, the phone must be off for it to work, try it out

Ah ok, this is news to me. Sounds good, I will give it a go and come back.

The Update Service was corrupted for me (I suspect it's my connection, this is a relatively common problem with downloads) so I downloaded the PCC instead, but it won't find the phone when it is plugged in. I don't know if the phone needs to be on for it to detect it, but if it does then this is a dead end cos this guy does not want to turn on.

It was giving me charging screens when I pressed the home button for a while but then I tried to turn it on, got the opening animation and then everything went black again. And now it is doing nothing, even when I hold the on/off button. The little orange light is on, but it stays the same whether it is plugged in or not, which I doubt is a good sign.

try to download SEUS again

Is it alright to try this even though I'm not confident that my battery is charged over 50%?

you can check, go to settings -> about phone -> battery status
