Batter charging problems, what mA should i get etc.?

Hello all,

I have the Z2 tablet and have some problems.

1. When my GF is playing plants vs zombies 2 the phone is still draining its battery even it is connected to the official charger with the official cabel. Is this normal???

2. The charger is 1500 mA but during the charging the tablet was getting maximum 890 mA, again, is this correct?

3. When inserted the cable during the game the tablet announced that the charger is not strong enough and it will be draining again

4. How long should it take to fully charge? Xperia support told me up to 6:20 but I think that is the first version, not Z2.

Thanks in advance for answers.

Hi Karel

I am getting the same problems when using GPS all day in the car connected to a cradle charger. The battery drains and I get the warning you are talking about.

If the screen brightness is turned down or GPS is off, the devices charges ok. I was hoping this was the cheap cradle I bought (I have genuine one in the house) or not enough amps from the car USB outlet, but from your info it may be more serious.

Can't offer much help, but interested to see if anyone else comment.

Thanks

Check this thread: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z2-Tablet/z2-tablet-charges-battery-very-slow/m-p/913776#M1406

Your problems may be due to faulty or incorrect USB cable. Tablet senses how many AMPs it can draw by the resistance between D+ and D- signals. If it can't detect 1500 mA charger it falls back to lower modes.

Under full load tablet may take up to 2 Amps / 2000 mA so if you plan to use it under heavy load buy good quality 2.1 AMP charger. It will not burn your tablet, it will only take as much power as possible within manufacturer limits.

Cheap chargers may burn or cause failures within device so be careful. Also keep in mind that this is a consumer device - it wasn't planned for long, high performance load so you may get CPU/GPU throtthling after some time.

I recently got a Cobra Jumpack Jump Starter/Power Pack (for my car). It says that it will charge USB devices and it specifies that has a 5V 2.1 AMP output. Would this work with the Experia Z2 tablet?

It should work. Z2 should be charged with at least 1.5A. If it is normal usb charging port with 2.1A mark on it you should be fine.
