Hello again,
since I switched to ICS (Xperia S) I am having problems with Smart Tags detection. Namely, it often happens that the phone does not recognize the Smart Tag when it approaches it, and I need to try more times (3-4!) for it to detect it. (NFC is toggled on, of course).
This is a very troublesome problem while driving, since moving the phone around in order to detect the Tag may be dangerous.
This happens with both tags (black and red) so it can't be the tags themselves, but the ICS which messed something, as on GB the mechanism functioned impeccably.
Someone else experiencing the same?
I am still on Gingerbread and this happens to me sometimes, usually when swiping it really fast.
Same issue with the smarttags. I have all 4 and they respond badly, sometimes taking 3 or more swipes.
right guys ive just learned somthing why somtimes the smart tag mess's up, well i dont know if anyone has done this i know i have somtimes when go to grab your mobile and your wallet your debit or credit card or any other car switches tag to unknown so just be carful if it does happen just press cancel if you accept it just restart the handset and scan your tag in.
if you are currently on ICS 4.0.4 make sure that android Beam is enabled in the wireless and network settings. this made my smartages work on 4.0.4
Having same issues.
Also i think its insane that tags only turns profiled features on. After second touch to same tag, phone should fall back to previous state..
joshua, yes, Beam is turned on.
Oh well...I hope the next upgrade will bring the correction to this problem. The issue is raised.
Me also on XperiaS berore ICS all SmartTags works properly, but after update to ICS 4.0.4 SmartTags/Tags app disappeared.
I verifed Google Baem is active but no Tag is detected.
I updated also LiveWare and Xperia SmartTags uing GooglePlay but no results.
Appication is still missing on app list, no tag is detected and no other phone are detected using NFC.
I'want to lauch this app manually, but I can't find it using Explorer...
I was a Windows Mobile user and actually I'm a new UNHAPPY Android user.
Same thing with my SXS. After upgrade to 4.0.4 SmartTags are not always recognized. Will try to switch Android Beam and see if it improves NFC operation. However, logically they should not be connected.
I also hate the sound played when the phone recognizes the tag.
Hi everyone, just an update.
After a LOT of testing and research, I came across a possibly relevant finding. I think that there may be something to do with connection to the PC. Namely, my Windows 7 doesn't not offer to eject the device safely, even though it acts as an MTP device. I notice that the "MTP extension service" (2 processes, 2 services) keeps hanging even after I pull out the plug.
However, the situation is so far ambivalent: once I got tag response working after manually killing these processes; another time, they were still hanging, but the tags were detected almost perfectly.
A question for the pros: is this worth further testing? Can MTP services actually have something to do with NFC tag response quality?
EDIT:
Each time after I reseted the phone's settings ("backup & reset" -> "settings reset") NFC worked perfectly. Prior to first connection to the PC, that is. I guess that's one pro-argument for that MTP story..?
Also, a minute ago I killed the hanging MTP processes and services, but still the tags weren't being detected. So weird... :s
