Hello
I need help pls
Yesterday I was having software repair for my Xperia Z1
After finishing i clicked on Backup instead of Restore, to get my backup back. So, my new blank phone data replaced the backup i created earlier.
Can anyone help me to know how to get the first version i created for my backup? ( i created it august 30th)
Thanks,
Nancy
Hi Nan0608,
Welcome to the community,
Let us see if we can help resolve this for you.
When using Xperia Companion to backup it makes individual backup files, so you should also have the backup file from the 30th as you advised.
Generally, all you need to do is Go to back and restore, press restore and as long as your device is connected it should show backup files for you to choose from.
Let us know how you get on.
Thanks for your reply
It's little more complicated now though. I didnt know before that I can find the older verison of my backup when I restore.
What I tried to do is getting the old files that are already on my pc (from first backup) to be transferred to my phone again (the ones dated back to Aug 30), to make a backup from them again from phone (a new backup), and restore again, hoping to get them back and be detected by Companion. ( i know this may sound silly but i just really need them)
Tried this 2 times but failed.
Now, i do have the files of my old backup on my pc, so i'm sure I can do something and have them again working on my phone.
Please help me as I don't wish to use a tool that's risky to get those files back :S
PS. the most important ones i need now are : chrome bookmarks, sms's, and the notes. i had photos and contacts backup through something else so don't need them.
Thank You
How exactly did you perform the backup of the file from the 30th, was this using PC Companion and not Xperia Companion. As there may be a way to restore the content to the phone using the search function in the restore area.
However, note that if the software is of an earlier version of the backup you are not likely able to restore them onto your handset.

Xperia Companion is what i used first time and using now, no longer using Pc companion.
Yes the files are on my pc but i can't just create another backup from them because they are on the pc
What software you mean?
I was repairing Lollipop and it remains the same version after being repaired.
I just double checked for you, when I use Xperia Companion this is how to perform a Restore.
1. Open Xperia Companion
2. Press on Restore
3. there will be a message that asks you to choose the appropriate backup choose that backup
4. press next
That is how the restore is done, make sure you are not going into Backup, as Backup is the wrong option to restore content.

Dear Jake,
That's what i did first time, i clicked on backup, so the new blank phone i repaired replaced the backup i already had first, that's the problem
The other problem is that old backup is no longer on xperia companion, i only have the one i tried to create today after sending old backup files from pc to phone, and it failed.
now what I need is:
Make use of the old backup files i have on my pc, whether through xperia companion or not, the target is to have those files recognized and working on my phone (chrome bookmarks, sms's, and notes)
If the old backup is located in the correct file path it may be able to see it so you can perform the restore.
All backups end up in a specific location and they must be situated there for them to show.
Documents > Sony > Xperia Companion > backups
If the backup is located here it may show on the Restore section, however, if it does not, then I'm afraid I have no other process you could use to restore the content the handset
Yes it is there but it doesn't show on the restore options
Here's a screenshot for the files on my laptop
Just to update you
I deleted files that i didnt want (5 sep) from backup files on my pc and kept only ones from 30 aug
Then i moved the folder, ( it was not shown to companion as it moved)
Then found it finally on Companion and restored !
Thank God!
