backup and restore app: cannot select external USB storage

I do not have an external Sd card so I would like to select the backup location to an external usb storage, like my PC's hard disk, but the only option enabled for backup location is internal memory: external sd is disabled cos I have no sd (which is fine) but why also external usb storage is greyed out?

How do you connect a USB memory to your device? I'm able to back up the data to a USB storage if I connect a USB memory to the LiveDock and the LiveDock to my Z1, then USB Storage lights up and I can choose this option.

I simply connect my phone to my pc using the USB cable: imwas hoping I could use the PC's hard disk as external storage.

If this is not possible, can i backup in the internal memory and then move the backup files to the PC? If yes, where is the backup located?

If you want to make a back up to your PC you can use the "Back up & restore" function in PC Companion. To be able to back up your content via the preinstalled application "Back up & restore" to a USB pen drive for example, this USB pen drive needs to be connected directly to your phone via an OTG-adapter.

The back up folder is named ".semc-fullbackup", but when creating a back up to your internal storage you will not find this folder from the PC. What you can do, is to download a file manager to your phone, for example Total commander and change the name of this folder and you should be able to find it when you connect the phone to your PC.

Note that in some file managers, you need to mark the option to show hidden files/folders.
