auxiliary jack plug issues

Hi guys
I bought a new itrip type transmitter and charger for my z1 as I don't have an auxiliary input I my car. When I try and use it for the the z1 the music comes from the phone not the radio but the same device works with any other phone I've tried. So I checked the jack plug using headphones a few pairs and they all work fine please help

does the jack go all the way in the plug?

did you fiddle with the 'smart connect' settings?

The jack sits flush so I will say I'm sure that it is fully in. As for smart connect when I first started not a change was made but I've had a play with it after and then put it back to normal. One thing I have noticed is that the headphone icon is not popping up like my other phones I've used

my guess is that:

the phone fails to detect that you have stuck something in it, for electronic reasons

how familiar are you with electronics?

edit:

i have a z ultra, not a z1

the hardware is similar, but not the same.

my phone does not care what you stick in the headphones, it always tries to play through there

however, if the Z1 works different, it might explain what is happening to you. if you have a spare cable (from old headphones or whatever) we can try something

i said four conductor jack, not rings. count the metal parts. Those are conducting... so yes, the one you pasted is right.

i am not very sure if it is going to work, though, if we can make any conclusions...
