I upgraded by XP to JB yesterday and now having troubles getting my office email to get automatically pushed to the device. The email push stopped as soon as I upgraded the phone. I could see errors like: "Unable to Connect: Security Error". After providing the username and password again, I was able to manually download emails, but autopush still won't work. The error would also appear periodically. I finally removed and re-added the account (which added the Email Server as Device Admin again). I am no longer getting the security error and emails were synched till that time.
The issue now is that I can manually sync the emails, but Automatic(Push) is still not working. If I turn ON the AutoSync option (Under Settings > Data Usage), emails start flowing. But that also means that every other app syncs in the background which drains my battery a lot. I was able to get Push emails in the stock client with AutoSync Off in both GB and ICS. Not sure what has changed in JB.
A quick search on the internet reveals a lot of Samsung people had this issue after JB upgrade and currently there is no solution/workaround.
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi guys. Anybody else facing this issue?
Sony support, any official word on this behavior?
have you try repairing your software? please do try..if not fixed do a factory reset to clear up settings of your phone
Thanks for the suggestion Florenz. But I do not think a repair/reset is required as it is not a bug, but a change in functionality brought about by JB.
I checked this with Samsung JB users in my office who have the same issue. Even on the Xperia Z, which comes pre-installed with 4.1.2, Automatic Push is not working with AutoSync off. So I can say for sure that this is a functionality change and not a bug.
For now I have excluded most of the Apps from AutoSync by unchecking them under Settings > Accounts.
It is correct that you need to have AutoSync enabled under Settings -> Data usage in order for push to work in JB. If you don't want to have other apps using AutoSync you need to disable sync for those accounts under Settings -> Accounts.
Another solution would be to use Stamina and only allow Email and Exchange Services but your other accounts will still be able to sync while display is on and while you're charging when using Stamina.
