Audio self tuning: how it works?

Question for Xperia developers: how does it work this feature?
Is it true, and how, that it measures the performance of the user's ear?

By the way, I have some headphones from Phillips (she9000) that worked great with Nokia 701 but poorly with Z3c. Z5c gave them a new life.

I have the SE535 ( not sure if the SE535-V is the same ) but they used to work fine on my other xperia ( Z and Z2 ) but they sound is very analytical and midranges dominate the sound stage. Tried them with different phones same performance. 

WIth Z5 premium it's a different story, power output is either lower than its predecessors or the OS is dong some nasty things to lower the volume. 

JH16 pro have 18 ohms impedance so I should turn deaf on max vol. but it's not the case.... it's just not punchy as if there's a high pass filter or cutoff frequency... anything below 1KHZ is just weak....

HI, That is why i'm already telling you that on some of the Z's that i own don't work with the same earphones that i've been using for awhile like the shure..... and my Z3+ on my last 2 post. No guarantee for a 100% compatible that what i'm trying to say.

Although i have a pair of the same earphones using for quite awhile, doesn't mean it will work with other phone model with the same series like the Z's.

And that's what I still don't understand.... How would a pair or IEM or headphone be compatible with one phone and not the other ? 

Why would it work with all iphones and not Xperia ? When I buy a new phone I expect a better audio output and quality not possible incompatibilty !

It's like saying a USB flash drive is not compatible with all Windows machines. It's a USB it should...

Now I did a test and I think I know what's going on... When I play a track and toggle the audio normalization, the output is punchy and as it should for half a second before it dies again.... must be software issue.

Have you ever try to check with the earphone manufacturer then on why it won't work?

There is many case, they will answer is not tested and so do Sony, i've also mentioned before about OS updates. Since you suspect could be a software problem then lets see if it goes better after it turns to android 6.0 and from there you can already have some sort of an idea if the result is the same or not.

In order to analyze my ear properties, the phone need to playback specific frequencies, get my feedback and then generate the appropriate eq for each of my ear. (like a basic acoustogram )

And some of the hardware requirement should also be supported by the mobile phone itself. Just like our Xperie Z5.

this paper is for something different... the system also includes a microphone in the earbuds in order to provide feedback on the device and mix ambient audio on them.

Z5 in theory will optimize the attached headphones without any feedback from them, having only "eletrical" feedback (ohm resistance etc).
