Arc s Android 4.04 why does Wifi problem show in different ways

I have recently become second hand owner of this model . Now, after the purchase I have  read many but not all the issues with ICS update and Wifi 😞 I thought sony was a quality brand.

I could have sworn on arrival my phone( with 4.04 on it )  worked with my Wifi, then I switched phone off, since then no WiFi capabilities.

None of the various solutions  has to date  fixed my problem -  it just hangs at switching on Wifi ( or Bluetooth ) ( I have not seen anything with this problem - surely some routers around my home might to seen at least? )

Most ( all? ) of the problems I have read are about dropped/unreliable  connections , fixes were router setting tweaks - clearly a 'useless' solution when outside the home

Why does the problem show itself in so many different ways - is the problem the WiFi chipset? ICS Drivers do not work with it? if the drivers pre ICS update worked if MUST be the ICS drivers?

Is the only solution to load a custom ROM ? if so which is recommended

Please dont suggest Update service - Done of course - no change and of course all wifi service s visible to/operating perfectly with any other device I have except this phone

Since a reinstall via Update Service can't fix this I suggest that you contact your local support team to have this examined and fixed at a repair center.
