I shared your concerns and took a whole weekend to very carefully learn all the ins and outs.

In the end it took me three or four tries before I got the job done.

I knew that the rewards for rooting the phone were sizable and persuaded me to go for it despite being a naturally cautious person.

I too worried about 'bricking' my phone but I also had faith that the process was one that had been done time and time again.

I held my breath as I first tried to connect the xperia in flash mode and run step 1.  It failed.

then it failed again...

My phone was okay thank god as nothing had been done, but I pressed on knowing that the rewards were worth any risks.

so that night I thought about what I had tried and determined to try again next day.

well by the sunday afternoon I got it to work...and I was wrapped.

I still did not quite understand the advantages of what I had done but I know that root access to a linux based system allows you to do much more in concept.

I see no reason why we cannot have administrator access to our own phones....we do with our laptops and desktops...why not our phones.

The question on warranty was a mute point for me because I had used SE phones in the past as well as samsung and lg and never had to claim warranty.

so...its highly unlikely that I'd need it ...especially as I'd been using the phone for a few weeks and it was certainly stable.

In any event, it was nice to see a post about warranty not being lost over a root that leaves the bootloader alone.

hmmm...I havent seen any saving on battery with adw but then I did put it on after I made other changes.

the great thing about adw is that it frees up the desktop with up to 7 screens to scroll past and a preview function that shows the screens

in minature on the home screen and you can pick the one you want at random rather than scrolling left or right past every screen to get to the 7th one for example.

other advantages are the 2 most common programs default to the bottom of each desktop.

and it alows transparency of the programs list

and it allows collumn and rows of the programs menu to be increased

and it allows customization and animation of the screens...there are so many options it takes a while before you see the full

features of this highly improved way to acces your xperia.

I kept finding new things days later...

but you see and let me know what you think...cheers..

Perhaps I'll have a look into that as well after this week.
