I've got used to the fact we wont be getting Kitkat so I was wondering has any one installed Cyanogenmod 11 on an SP yet and how's it going
I am.
You should check and decide by your self. I know some people are happy using it, some not.
I have to use CM11 as stock 4.1.2 has an issue with stock calendar, 4.3 does not pull messages if I use activesync.
Updates are provided everyday, so sometimes it works better, and sometimes worse. Last nightlies are ok.
Ask if you need any specific informations.
Hello, can I ask a couple of things if you don't mind?
I've heard that speaker sound volume is pretty low and also the call quality suffers from some echoing and again low volume levels. Is it true?
To install cm11 do you only need to download the ~250MB zip file and that's it? Do I need a kernel, too and where to get it?
How do you update everyday? I've searched about it and saw an app called someting like CMdelta, do you use that or download 250MB files everyday?
By works better and worse do you mean overall performance or some app specific glitches?
Edit: I forgot to ask about overheating and battery performance. Stock 4.3 overheats like crazy, is it the same with cm11 and how's the battery endurance?
Thanks in advance.
Ogu,
1. Speaker sound. Iinstalled stock ROM a few weeks ago, and frankly speaking I think stock sound is even lower. I use CM11 with Williams Kernel which makes a possibility to increase sound volume using configuration files. Now the sound is enaugh for me.
2. Files. You need to have rooted device and a recovery (simple use CWM) installed. So, that what you need if you dont have a recovery is download zip file, take boot.img from it and flash it using flashtool. Then you restart your phone and call CWM pushing vol up number times. You have to install whole zip in CWM recovery, what takes just a 1-2 minutes. Then you can install PA-GAPPS, this package contains google apps from nexus devices. It is not neccessary, as you can install everything you need from a google playstore
3. There is CMdelta which is a differential installer, but I don't use it. Instead of it you can use OTA installer (similar to stock). But, please remember, you dont need to install every nightly.
4. It depends on nightly version. The overal performance is worse after some of them. Sometimes batery drain quickly. For example 18082014 nightly make batery loos power quickly, but next nightlies solved it. No I can use my device all day without charging, what is offcourse worse result than the stock. I use my phone very intensively, today I took it from a charger at 7am, now is 4pm and I still have over 60% left (my phone has used almost 40% during this time).
And, I don't play any games, so I cannot confirm a game performance.
5. My cpu is ovbercocked to 1832MHz an the highest temperature I had was about 37 Celcius. Normaly the phone is cold. Otherwise, you can downclock for having better batery life or lower temperature. Batery, as I said, after 9 hours I still have over 60% to use.
Hi @Larek
Are you using this CM11: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735975
Seems that the rear mic is working now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55079530&postcount=888
I'm on stock, rooted and LB and following this CM11 ROM on XDA... maybe i will flash this one if Oficial KK doesn't come!!!
This CM11 as .207 kernel on it, do you recomend Williams Kernel instead of stock .207/.205?
I use official CM11 fo unlocked BL. http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=huashan
I use with Williams . If you disable mpdecision works fine.
Thank you very much, Larek that was very informative.
I am not experienced with this, asked about the files because I wanted to have them beforehand because I have slow Internet connection from my laptop if another large file starts to download while installing it might get interrupted or take too long. When it comes to Google apps, I don't need more than half of them, some of them don't work here anyway.
I don't think I'd install every nightly but if it has problems I might have to at least try a new one, right? If it's stable enough I'd probably wouldn't install another until M version is out. It looks like it takes more time for SP to have a snapshot build, I wonder why.
I don't think I'd overclock the CPU and the temp and battery sounds good even with overclock.
Thank you again for explaining and for your time.
I have screen flicker with CM11... why is that?
