Alarms no longer work after marshmallow update

I updated my phone to 6.0.1 from 5.0.1. After which the alarms no longer work the same.
When the phone is in lock screen and an alarm goes off: the screen comes up blank with only the wallpaper and no option to tap to snooze, or swipe to turn off alarm. I have to hold the power button, and restart the phone to turn the alarm off.
The same error occurs on safe mode.

I performed a full wipe and restore and the same error is still there in both safe mode and normal mode.
When the screen is not locked the alarms work correctly.

I have been told by Sony support line that the update caused a hardware fault and I have to send it to be repaired in Sydney.
Any other suggestions? Because I dont like that one Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue Kind of desperate for a solution that is not that.

Hi Rickard,
I cleared out the data, and didnt return a back up- so its a fresh phone effectively. And the issue is still there.

When this happens, are you able to access the phones menues? Can you for example slide down the notification bar and access Settings?

I am having exactly the same issues, I have tried clearing data and all the other fixes mentioned above but it remains the same, the only way to turn the alarm off is to reboot the phone. It also does the same after taking a phone call, I can not reactivate the screen, it just stays black despite repeated button pressing, the only way to use the phone again is to long spress the power and reboot! Are Sony going to fix this issue soon? I have a z4 tablet that is also asking to update, but there is no way I am going to after my experiences with my phone, please sort it out Sony....

This is very bizarre, after trawling through many forums I came across a post about removing the phone from the case, which I have and it fixed the issue for some reason! It isn't a smart case, or linked with nfc or anything like that, just a standard wallet style case, when the phone is in the case, the screen is unresponsive, but when the phone is out of the case and the alarm goes off, it behaves normally, the swipe bar to stop the alarm is present and the screen is responsive as normal. Does anyone have an idea why this happens? I wouldn't have thought in a million years that the phone being a case would cause issues like this, and it does have to be said that before the latest update I did not have any problems with the alarm, in or out of the case, it's made me very wary of updating software even from reputable vendors like Sony!
