Alarm not playing my music

I can't play my own music files (ie Foo Fighters song etc in my music) for my alarm anymore (possibly since the last update or after) Even though I can select them and it comes up in the "sound picker" in the alarm options it doesn't actually play when the alarm goes off, it only plays one of the preset alarm noises.

Any help would be appreciated.

After choosing your own song make sure not to tick Style Settings as this will revert your phone back to default alarm sounds

I got the same problem with my Sony z1 compact on kitkat.

Did you find a solution for this?

I tried several alarm apps, playing songs from sd/internal memory and it did not work.
