Adding items to SMS

Whenever I try to send a picture I've D/L from the internet on my Xperia S, it says it is unable to add item to the SMS.  Is there something in the settings that I need to alter here, or is my handset just being tempramental?  It seems to be with .jpeg files but I must admit I've not tried any others (.png for example). It is doing my head in!

I've noticed it also won't let me edit or crop the picture, using the handset's built in software or Photoshop Express.  I'm wondering if it is something to do with where the file is saved on my handset.

You may have some corrupt files as in any circumstance you should be able to crop the image. In this case it would be worth backing up any data you want to keep from the storage and formatting it.
