8MP or 20MP camera?

The camera have both a 8MP and a 20 MP option for 16:9 pictures.

Are there any reason not to allways take pictures in 20MP (a side of the bigger file size)?

Regards

Michael

I am pretty disappointed that i cant take 20-23MP pictures in Scene mode (when in Manual), this only works with the 8MP resolution, i cant really understand why.... There are some pretty cool features in Scenes but i cant use it with my phone like i am supposed to? Anyone else that feels the same?

I really wish they have fixed this when the next update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes out.

More pixels gives you more information in a picture, which is great especially if you are enhancing the pictures in post like i do (with for example Photoshop or Lightroom for mobile). The more pixels the clearer the image will be when watching them on a bigger screen or when zooming in, if you are just gone use the pics on your phone or posting on instagram, then 8MP is just fine! And it saves u a lot of storage... :smileysmileythumbsup:

Not quite, that's a misconception, more pixels doesn't equal better pictures.

@uliwooly i never said better pictures, i said more information, if you watch a picture of 8mp and 20mp on a small screen u wouldnt see any difference, if u did tha same on a HD pc screen then yes u would see a big difference. And ofcourse there is a huge difference between a camera sensor of 20mp and a DSLR sensor of 20MP.... the bigger the sensor the more information you gather from a scene (especially with darker and brighter areas)... again, the pixels depend on where u are going to view them! Small camera/phone screen or a HD TV/pc screen? Yes the pixels does matter... i am a photographer so för example if i shoot sports, i shoot with smaller resolution for faster shutterspeeds and because i dont edit them much in post, but if i am shooting portraits i shoot with the biggest resolution to get the most detail which is also making thing easier in postprocessing..

I stand corrected, I misread, to answer your first question on superior auto the pictures are on 8MP because of pixel binning.

Dont worry about it @uliwooly , no problem. Well i hope they manage to change that with the upgrade to 6.0! I really hope to get that SCENE even in the 20-23 mp mode!

You don't prefer to use Manual mode over Superior auto?

That is what i am talking about @uliwooly, in Manual mode you can change the SCENE to night portrait, landscape, macro etc etc, but ONLY in 8mp or lower, not in 20-23 mp. I prefer the Manual mode but i cant use the SCENES in the 20mp 16:9 that i want. It is unavailable.
