4K playback on computer

Hi, just wondering does anyone else have problems playing 4K video back on computers?
I have recorded several videos on my Z2 using the 4K feature, on the phone they play perfectly, however i have tried to copy them to several computers and on each on they just play back all garbled and stuttery, they are completely unwatchable.

I have tried 2 laptops:

1 x Macbook pro mid 2010 with 4GB mem Core 2 Due

1 x Asus Zenbook with 4GB mem and core i5 CPU.

1 x Dell Optiplex with 2.65 dual core and 3 GB mem with 2GB additional graphics memory.

All machines should play this fine and i have tried Windows Media Player, VLC, Quicktime and iPhoto and all with the same results.

My last hope is my iMac tonight with 3.0Ghz i3 CPU and 8GB mem i can stream 4k videos from Youtube no prob and all other videos play fine.

Whats the point in having an Ultra HD recording phone if the videos dont play anywhere other than teh phone!

You're right at some point, I didn't think about 4K as you have stated Slightly_smiling_Face

The fact that the video size is so large, your hard drive may not be able to load the file fast enough to keep up to the video, I know on my computer I needed to upgrade the hard drive to a Solid State drive before  I was able to watch the video.  And from what other people say that you need a 4k display in order to watch a 4k video is false. If that was true then you wouldnt be able to play back the video on the phone itself because the phones display is only 1080p not 4k, so that being said you can watch it on any display... You might just need a faster harddrive.

Playing 4K videos on 1080p screens will not give you true and best result, but it still will be better than usual 1080p video, it was already proved, especially on big screens like TV. Basically, pixel density of the source will be higher = better. I believe you can also see the difference even when playing such a video on your smartphone when comparing to full hd.

And no, you do not need SSD as reading/writing speed od 4K is about 7MB/s so please... that's why you can easily play it with your phone. It's the matter of a good codec and sufficient hardware.

hey guys, sorry to re-open this topic.

i own a Xperia M5 dual. i have recorded videos in 4K format on my phone and the phone plays the videos without any issues.

issue here is am not able to play this videos on my Samsung 4K TV. the video freezes but the audio plays. my tv plays other 4K videos smoothly. i have also tried playing this videos on my laptop using VLC, which normally plas 4K videos but at a slower render speed, and experienced the same freezing of the video but the audio played.

am i missing anything here?
