I'm afraid you won't get much help here, even if you have written a clear and informative post; moderators and support folks seem to have left the building (the XA2 sub forum). Depending on country/region there is 12-24 months of warranty; perhaps you have some local Sony Mobile office you can contact (I know they are not represented in all parts of the world, and have recently said they are leaving some regions).
I'm happy that I didn't pay much for my XA2, closer to the price for an entry-level phone, since it will stay on the security patch level it arrived with, December 2018 and Android Oreo.
There are most of the time some advantages and disadvantages with a new OS, an upgrade; in this case, for example, in Android 9 the volume buttons control media volume, not the ringtone; one may also see changes in the user interface one doesn't like, say, infantile blue blobs in the Notification panel, but the big advantage must be to get security patches in the future. (Contrary to what some may believe, a new OS version won't unlock features in the hardware that are not there.)
For some reason they can't produce security patches for two OS versions, or wait, they can; when phones sold with Android Pie are upgraded to Android Q they must deliver patches to both Android Pie and Android Q, why then not allow people to stay on Android 8 and get security patches.
Some posts here lack a bit information, when, what etc. but still, we have seen plenty of reports of problems with screen, headphone jack, camera etc. That's not what one would expect from an OS upgrade.
I wish you good luck.
