Hi @ozzy2, welcome to our forum!

If you have forgotten your pattern screen lock, the only option is to perform a software repair using Xperia Companion.

Do note that this will delete all data stored on the internal storage of the device and since the device can't be unlocked, you will not be able to create a backup.

For others who read this tread there are some tips.

To be a bit safer than just end up with a locked device you can do several things.

- setup automatic backups

     - In your Google account

     - If it is present on your device Xperia Backup & restore

- setup fingerprint scanning

- setup Smart Lock (for instance device unlocked when you are at home)

- write down your pattern or unlock code

- select USB configuration - when device is connected with USB it sets automatic to file transfer MTP

      - this is in Developer Options, activate this by going to About Phone-> Tap on Build Number several times

      - have you set USB configuration to MTP then you can use USB and Xperia Companion to backup your device before doing Software Repair
