Since one of the updates a couple of months ago my phones camera has been experiencing major problems although I can now use the camera ok I can't say the same for the video option, when ever I use the video option and stop recording the video stop but I can't exit the screen and the only way to is turn the phone off completely and when I try to access what I've recorded it shows an error message. I'm sorry to say as much as I love experia's Sony is renowned to screwing them up with their updates and that's the reason why I went with a different last time I had a new phone and I'm sorry to say I'm thunk about changing again so Sony get your act together.
Stupid question: are you pressing the stop button (on the right) or the pause button (in the middle)? What you are describing (not being able to exit camera app) is happening only if you pause the recording but you don't stop it.
It's not a stupid question but I am pressing the stop button and when I do all buttons vanish and I can't even bring up the 3 outer screen buttons. Before one of the updates it worked fine and now I'm lucky if I can record anything.
The only thing I can think of is to try Software repair via Xperia companion. It will perform a clean installation of the software. Be careful, all your data will be erased, so backup everything before you perform it.
