Notifications with off screen

Hi. when I receive a notification. the screen does not turn on at all. if I have the phone next to me on the table and receive a notification just sounds and the notification light comes on. I do not light up and I can see the notification without unlocking the phone.for example at samsung when I receive a notification, the screen lights up briefly for a few seconds.

That's how android is supposed to work, hence the notification light; with that said, you can download third party apps to have that type of notificatios.
