Latest android update

Hi.

About a week ago I got a notification there was an update for my xa2. All I could find googling the version number was "it's a security update" but now suddenly I have android 9 instead of 8 and things look different and some have even disappeared.

First of all, how do I disable/remove the microphone shortcut on the lower left corner of my lock screen? I will never talk TO my phone but daily use that shortcut space to open the dialler. I've managed to disable this in android 8 and 7 before it.

Second, how do I move the clock back to top right corner? Upper left might be just as good but it's my phone and if it's been in one location for the better part of 10 years, why force me to have it moved?

Well, you certainly didn't have any luck with your Google-Fu then. 50.2.A.0.379 is in the 50.2-branch. I assume that's indicating Pie. Sorry to hear your story.

50.1.A.13.123 Android 8 - with December security patch.
50.2.A.0.342 Android 9 - bricked some phones, and didn't reach all regions.
50.2.A.0.352 Android 9 - with February security patch.
50.2.A.0.379 Android 9 - with May security patch.

I'd rather see security patches for Android 8 than having to upgrade to Pie just to get some.

I'm staying on 50.1.A.13.123 rather than risking the camera, the headphone jack and the screen all going bad, and whatnot, and that's not mentioning "features" in Pie, volume controls for media, a "childish" UI with blue blobs in the notification panel (some reviewer said it might be easier to discern whether things are enabled or not; I don't agree; with the black, grey and white it did look professional. But then I'm not a teenager that just wants to have the same as everyone else.

Quite some irony; all over the web people have been screaming and asking for Android Pie, "please, sir, send the update", as if it was delivered on an individual basis. And when it arrives to Xperia XA2 ...

I expect there will be a new update soon, premium phones and older premium phones have started to get the June update during the first three weeks of June. And after all, Sony Mobile mentioned on their own blog that it (XA2) is part of the Android Enterprise Recommended program, which means security patches within 90 days for at least three years (in this case starting 2018).

The above said, I do understand that a major upgrade, Pie, a "completely" new OS version is something else than a monthly update and security patch, that there can be some minor teething problems that needs tweaking after the first release of the new OS, but still, they know their hardware, they have updated it during 2018, Xperia 10 has the same chip as XA2 etc. Then, as has been mentioned at times, some things may be Goggle's "fault", not Sony Mobile's.

Here is one, not so encouraging thread, about the camera shortcut (XZ1 Compact):

I'm a bit surprised that not all can be disabled from appearing on the lock screen (or being locked down so that it can't be changed, say the Clock, or accessed), after all it is the lock screen.

As for the clock in the status bar, I'm sure you already know that there are plenty of comments about it, Google's decision based on some phones having a stupid notch; another thread, this time XZ2:

Ui changes are crap. Shortcuts on lock screen are crap. Volume buttons without ability to change volume of all sliders are crap..

Why didn't I just skip this update?! 😭

Many thanks for your reply though!
