Hi,
I just bought a Sony Xperia XA1.
Regarding camera, when I click on settings and resolution, it seems impossible to go below 12MP for back camera and 5MP for front camera (with so high resolution but also high place taken in memory).
All the updates have been made so I just do not know how to decrease the picture resolution now.
If someone could help me, that would be great.
Thank you
Hi @Gueuyome,
To change the resolution of you camera you need to first open the camera app, tap on the cogwheel icon in the bottom corner of your display, then resolution. Here you should be able to select between different resolution options as well as different aspect ratios. It doesn't matter if you use the manual or superior auto mode on your camera, the way you change your resolution is the same.
It is however not possible to change the resolution to be bellow 12MP for the back camera or 5MP for the front facing camera.
Let me know if this answers your question.
Hi and thank you both for your answer.
I did find those parameters but find that, regarding the kind and need for the pictures, a lower resolution would be helpful in order to reduce the size of the pictures (if you just need to send low res picture to someone for example).
However, the Sony page for Xperia XA1 announces that you can go to 3 or 2MP while it is unfortunatly not possible (at least on the french page):
https://support.sonymobile.com/fr/xperiaxa1/userguide/camera-settings/
Any plans to provide those options?
Regards
Hi,
I have the same problem. I would like to reduce the size of the photo, but cannot find a solution. It is very unconvenient to have such a big size photo.
For example, I am not able to send the photo via gmail on the phone, because the size is over the limit of the gmail app. I cannot even upload it to other apps.
Is there a way to work around it? Or, as you said it is not possible......
Many thanks!!!

This is a big bug of the Sony camera app. I am afraid that Sony phone will die out one day with such poor customer service.
It's abundantly clear that the OP asking the question knows how to change the resolution on the Sony Xperia. His/her point is, that the minimum setting is ridiculously high. You can't actually get the Xperia to take a photo with resolution less than about 4mb. So please answer the question.
Just came on here as dou d it hard to reduce file size on my camera photos on my xz2 The only way I found was to s screenshot the photo. Hope this helps someone.
