Group contacts option not available

After the update to android 7 group contacts are not shown in contacts. You favourites  and all are the only fields shown, but no groups? All my grouped contacts still have the group assigned but there's no way I can see to display the group?

Likewise you can no longer select a group to send a message to under the standard Sony messaging app.

Any ides?

I guess it was removed, as with all Xperia devices updated to Nougat. The same was reported in Z5, X, XZ, and others. You can regain this functionality by searching the Google Play store for a 3rd party app that supports it. I think someone mentioned ZenUI and Addappt.

As you may have noticed, the Groups tab in Contacts app has been removed in Android Nougat 7.0. You can still access your group data in edit contact view to create a new group or to edit members of a group. Group data that is already registered is kept, and you can still select which groups to be shown in Contacts list.

To create a new group

  1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
  2. Tap Contacts, then select a contact.
  3. Tap the edit icon > More fields.
  4. Tap the group field > Create new group.
  5. Type the name of the group, then tap OK > Save.

To select which groups to show in Contacts list

  1. From your Home screen, tap the Application screen icon.
  2. Tap Contacts, then select a contact.
  3. Tap the edit icon > More fields.
  4. Tap the group field, then mark or unmark a group list.
  5. Tap the back icon, then tap Save.

Other group related features that has been removed includes:

  • Delete group.
  • Modify name of group.
  • Filter by specific group.
  • Create message or email to all group members. Group messaging is still supported in Messaging app and Email app.

@JackXAUltra, for this to be possible you would need to download another messaging app that can directly access your groups. A example of one would be Textra, but there are likely other ones on Google Play Store that I am not aware of.

If you find a messaging app you like feel free to share it with the rest of the community. Slightly_smiling_Face

I want to send same message to multipl people same time. But it is really hard. Because, no markup of contacts and no add-on feature.

And also i have another problem that there isnt grouping in contacts. That is a problem for me and people with different groups of friends like me

I did not have a chance to visit the Forum. If the same issue has been discussed before, forgive me.

I had an Sony Aqua phone that got ruined. It was supposed to be water proof, but that was not true.

I purchased another Sony cell, because the price/value was good, but now I can't even save/send group chats. Also the keyboard is tricky. The keyboard screen blocks what I'm typing.

This unfortunately will likely be my last Sony cell 😞

Sincerely,
