Hi,
I experience very poor performances on my Xperia XA ultra (F3212) GPS for some months : Google Maps or Waze locate me 50 meters on left or right, on others roads or in a middle of a field. Sometimes, the phone lost GPS signal.
I try to recalibrate it with GPS manager and GPS essential but it don't change anything.
I finish to believe it was an hardware problem but i crashed my Xperia some weeks ago so I bought a new one... and i experienced exactly the same problem on the new one !
I encountered absolutely no problem with the GPS until the problem appears, so suddenly that I am persuaded it appears after a major update (not the recent Nougat update but the previous update, some months ago). I found other people like me that think the problem began after a major update too : https://forum.xda-developers.com/xa-ultra/help/gps-performance-decrease-recently-t3552640?nocache=1

Has anyone the same problem or any solution to it ?
Thanks all
I have the same problem. Xperia XA.
точно такая же ситуация. менят телефон не стал. пользуюсь программами которые местоположение устанааливают по сотовым вышкам.
exactly the same situation. they do not change the phone. I use the programs that the location uses on mobile towers.

I tried to calibrate compass and GPS with Maps and renew A-GPS data with GPS Status app. Sometimes it work a little... I can have no problem during a day or two... or a minute or two ! Finaly the GPS show me 50 meters at right or left of my real position.
In this case, GPS Status show me the numbers of satellites the GPS use and, mostly, less of 4 or 5 satellites, that is not suffisant. In normal state, the phone show 8 or 9 satellites minimum. Why suddenly the GPS lose 3, 4 or 5 satellites ? I don't know.
I have a similar issue on a xa ultra, android 7.0. Incredibly poor and inconsistent GPS, almost no satellites (none indoors) and no lock. Any luck with a solution?
Same issue with my ZA Ultra F3216

Hi,
I had updated my XA Ultra F3216 to the latest firmware upgrade 36.1.A.1.86 a few months ago, Recently i tried driving and used GPS Location with Maps for navigation and found that the GPS is not working.
Settings -> About phone -> Support -> GPS
The GPS test is failing.
I doubt it has stopped working after I upgraded the firmware / after I visited the service center for changing my display as it was flickering.
Sony please help to fix this!!
i bought this phone as a stop-gap for a year or so as my Xperia Z2 decided to stop working. I use the GPS daily for work as well as using it for the game 'Ingress', which uses GPS to play. This is the third Xperia phone I have bought on the trot and depending on the outcome may be my last Sony phone.
The GPS is absolutely useless using Google Maps, the navigation sends me all over the place and my location doesn't sit still, jumping from one location to another or shows I'm about 30 metres or so from my actual location. The Maps app doean't allow me to calibrate the GPS like it says I can, doing the 'figure of 8' doesn't narrow my beam.
I've also tried running in Safe Mode and it does exactly the same thing so it's not an issue with the apps.
Reading up on this it seems like it's an issue with an update, whether it's firmaware or the Nougat update, as I don't want to downgrade I am formally requesting Sony fix this issue. This is unnaceptable that a huge company like Sony would let their mobile phone users down like this - especially considering that their phone department struggles with sales against other makes.
I await your reply.
UPDATE:
After messing around with a few settings I've not 100% cured the issue but it's much better than before.
There seems to be a link between the phone signal and GPS, I'm presuming when in A-GPS mode and when my signal switches from 4G to 3G and vice versa. There's a wait of a few seconds then my location sporadically jumps from one place to another, rendering my navigation useless.
Here's my semi-cure;
1. Go into settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network Type. Choose WCDMA only (as I'm not really bothered about 4G I'm choosing to stick with 3G only so it doesn't have to keep switching bands and dropping the signal.
2. Then, go to settings > Location, first make sure that High Accuracy mode is turned ON.
3. In the Locations Settings click the 3 dots on the top right-hand corner of the screen and tap Scanning.
4. Make sure Wi-Fi Scanning and Bluetooth Scanning are turned OFF (So it just uses the 3G data for a location fix).
5. Go to the Play Store and download the GPS Status app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2
6. After the app has installed, open it then in the menu tap Manage A-GPS state.
7. Tap on Reset on the bottom left of the dialogue box.
8. Restart Phone.
Whilst this is way better than when I first got the phone it's still not perfect. Obtaining a signal indoors is a near impossibility and in certain vehicles it still drops the GPS signal even though it's picking up at least 8 satellites but uses none of them.
Right this second I'm sitting in my office, I can see 20 satellites but have 0 in use, I'm literally a metre away from the window. Going up against the window brings back the GPS signal with 9-10 satellites in use with +/- 4 metre accuracy.
Please Sony sort this.
ANY SOLUTION??
IS THE 3RD TIME I HAVE RETURNED THE PHONE TO TE STORE. IT WORKS FINE FOR 4 MONTHS AND THEN THE GPS STARTS TO FAIL AGAIN... HELP!
