Hi, I bought an Xperia XA1 mid July 2018 and by October 2018, I started to struggle with charging the phone as the charging port became progressively loser and loser.
I tried with three different cables (all original Sony Xperia XA1 chargers) but it worsened until last week when my phone completely ran out of battery as I was unable to charge it.
The phone doesn't open so trying to access the faulty port is impossible.
As I cannot switch it on anymore, nor charge it anymore, I therefore cannot retrieve any information on my phone, nor can I access its serial number required by Sony to register the problem with them and activate the warranty / get it repaired.
Has anyone encountered this issue and if so, how did they get it sorted (if at all) please?
Any help with this pressing matter would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.
Emmanuelle
As this looks like a hardware issue, your only solution is to contact your local support and get your phone inspected by a professional. If you still have the original box you should find your IMEI number on it.
Thank you for your reply. I do not have the original box ... Is there another way for me to retrieve the serial number? Also I need to access the data and information on my phone, any advice on how to do this would be most appreciated, thank you. Emmanuelle
Hi @Emmanuelle1, sorry to hear about this.
If the device can't be powered on, our program won't be able to access the data in the device, but hopefully you have backed data up using Google photos and so on.
The IMEI number can be found on the IMEI label that is inside the SIM and SD card slot. It may also be written on your receipt.
Keep us posted!
Thank you for your reply.
I live abraod (in the Cape Verde islands) and do not have access to a local support.
I guess my only solution will be to bring the phone to be inspected at a local support when I visit the UK in July (by then the phone will be over a year old by a month so I am hoping the warranty will still be valid?).
As regards the IMEI number, the only number I can identify on the little lever on which the sim card slots in the phone is: H4302
Is this the correct number?
I need to identify the IMEI number as soon as possible so I can report my phone as faulty to both Sony and Carephone Warehoue where the phone was purchased.
I am finding it very poor that a phone of such quality should stop working after less than 6 months and it has left me in a complicated situation as finding a replacement phone where I live is not as easy as if I were in the UK...
Thank you for your help,
Emmanuelle
Hi again!
Oh, I see! You can still get in touch with them (UK Support) and see if there are any other options available, such as shipping the device from where you live to a service centre in the UK and then having it returned, but I'm not sure if that will work, but it's worth a try at least. You can also ask them about the warranty, but if I am not mistaken, the warranty is valid for 24 months for devices bought in the UK.
The IMEI number always starts with 35 and is 15 digits long. There are usually two small white straps with text on both sides in the SIM/SD slot, however it's written in a very small font though, so you may have to look very closely. This information can also be found on the receipt (in most cases), or on the box.
I hope that helps!
