Often restarts automatically

My Compact Xperia

automatically restarts often...even when I am in a phone call. Seems to happen mostly when an app is installed or updated. It can be inconvenient and frustrating. Any fixes?

- does it happen in safe mode?

You can try this:

- Goto apps

- on the right to corner you see 3 dots

- tap on it

- tap sort apps

- sort on date

- delete the last 2 or 3 installed apps

- see if the bad behaviour has stopped

I have never tried safe mode. What does it do?

Safe mode is as if you never installed any app.

The clean device as if after a reset.

No disturbances from other apps.

Howto

- Push power button

- Long press Power off

- You will get the choice to restart in safe mode

If a problem persists in safe mode it is more likely to be a hardware problem.

If the problem has disappeared in safe mode then it probably is an app that is misbehaving.

Hi @AFF, welcome to our forum and I'm sorry to hear about this.

As @Strampke suggested, safe mode is great way to see if one or more of your downloaded applications are the cause of the device restarting.

Have you had the time to try the device in safe mode? If you have, do you still experience these restarts? If you do, try temporarily removing the SIM and/or SD cards from device as a faulty card can cause the device to restart.

I put my phone in safe mode. When I installed an app, the phone restarted by itself. I haven't put the phone in safe mode for large amount of time yet to see if it randomly will restart. Next I will try removing the card and see if that helps.

That sounds like a great idea! I understand having the device in safe mode is not very fun, but before we move on to other troubleshooting, it's the best way to see if this can be sorted in an easier fashion then for example, having to reset your device.

Removing the SD card is good for pinpointing SD card trouble.

Did you already delete some apps?

  • Touch the apps icon to display the apps screen
  • Tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner
  • Sort apps by date
  • Delete last installed apps

I have learned myself to clean up my device once in a while and delete apps that haven't been touched lately.

There are 2 things you could take a look at:

  • In the Support App on your device ( find it as well under settings->magnifying glass-> type support) you can goto Device Info and look for Application problems.
  • In the Google Play App
    • tap on Installed then tap on the 3 lines in the upper right corner and Sort by Last Used.
    • Tap on some apps down below on the list and uninstall them (you didn't use them anyway)Screenshot_20180305-224110.pngScreenshot_20180305-224401.png
