Hi,
Just recently bought an X Compact, and from the very begininng the headphone jack was evidently not working properly. When I plug my wired headphones (boze) in, the phone correctly notices and transfer audio to the headphones. However, after 5 seconds or less the audio stops, as if I unplugged the cord. When I then press play to resume the music, the audio is coming out the speaker, even though my headphones are still plugged in.
Is anyone else having this kind of error? Tried re-starting, software updates, resets etc., but the issue persists.
Cheers!
Similar problem with my Sony Xperia X Comapct I got a couple of days ago.
No sound in my AKG Q460 wired headphones.
Headphone is working with another android phone.
Using Sonys headphones, included in the phone package, work.
With App SoundAbout I can redirect sound to headphone.
Must be a bug in the headphone detection function.
Hope it will be fixed soon.
Checking in. Plantronics BackBeat PRO used in the Wired configuration, don't work well. Tried with crappy in-ear ASUS unmarked earbuds (with a microphone even), those worked. I'm thinking Sony sources the headphone jacks out of a shack or something.
Note: the wired setup for the BackBeat PRO has a microphone feature as well as volume controls. The crappy ASUS only have a microphone and a phone button.
Got my Xperia X Compact F5321 two days ago. I have this same issue.
My old Sony earphones work fine, as do the ones shipped with the device. However, my AKG K619 headphones will cut out randomly, and upon resume will play over speakers.
I would love to think that this is a software issue, but i worry it's a hardware defect. My headphones worked 100% fine on my Z3 Compact, despite the fact that they have volume controls on them designed for iOS. On non-iOS devices, the headphones would normally function perfectly - audio and 'main' button - but the iOS volume keys don't work.
I worry that headphones with (optional) iOS features such as a volume control are completely incompatible with this device, even if they work with any other device. This might have to do with the actual 3.5mm jack being slightly different.
I hope we can get an official response on the issue - i have hope it's a software bug.
But one thing's clear, there's enough of us posting about this issue for it to be Sony's fault, not ours.
Doing some further research, I think this is to do with Sony's hardware/software not reading the OMTP standard properly.

It's interesting to note, that if you attach an adapter at the end of your headphones - for example one of these:
And the headphones will work fine. I've just tested it myself. You'll note, that one of these adapters completely strips the microphone functionality and turns it into a standard set of earphones. I have a hunch, that purchasing an OMTP to CTIA converter will provide a temporary solution to retain microphone functionality for your headphones. I'm yet to test this. For example, here's one on ebay.
Sony, sort it out!
I don't think this is quite right, because while I have the exact same issues as everyone else, for the first few days of use, my headphones worked perfectly. Including the mic, volume controls, skipping tracks in Spotify, everything.
So something has changed since then. If it's a hardware problem, it'd have to be some sort of wear issue, extremely fragile contacts in the jack? No idea. Software seems more likely.
But out of the box, everything worked, so it's not a botched implementation of the standard. It's also telling that using the SoundAbout app can sometimes force output to the headphones, so whatever part of Sony's software is deciding where to output must be working incorrectly.
I've pm'd Christofer, who earlier in this thread asked for bug reports from the device - it might be worth doing the same, though It looks like everyone's problem is identical. I'm still awaiting any progress on this, and if there isn't any soon I'll have to just return the device and warn the retailer that they're all defective - I suggest others do that too.
If you take a look at the forums for the Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact, you'll see--as I have--that this is an ongoing hardware issue that still hasn't been resolved since late 1914, when I first bought my Z3 Compact. Seeing the problem arising yet again in 1917 makes me REALLY leery about buying another Xperia. Except for this very aggravating hardware issue, it's a great phone. Come on, Sony!
Here to add to the data so that it's clear that these are not isolated incidents.
I bought my F5321 two months ago and from day one every time I connect my old apple earphones they will be detected for about 5 seconds and then the phone thinks I disconnected them and stops sending audio there.
Those same earphones worked just fine in my Z1 Compact, and other normal earphones without the extra buttons (with normal jack connector layout) work just fine in this X Compact, so this is absolutely a fault with this model and that type of jack.
Edit: I'm using Soundabout as a workaround, but I really wish I didn't have to. In case you were wondering, I use those Apple buds because they actually sound better than any other earbuds I've owned and they block out more sound.

Toast, I support the comments, I went for 6 months, everything worked perfectly, then AUX became upset, bought a new one, ran a week, started writing Headset was not found, now it's similar to headphones. I also believe that this software destroys. Specialists of Sony, Please, correct this mistake!
I'm having the same issue with my phone. Worked fine for a couple of months and then suddenly had a problem. I had the phone replaced with a brand new one but that had the same problem immediately. I have been using the "SoundAbout" app and this fixes the issue, but the headphone and the in built controls no longer work so this is not an ideal sollution.
I have spoken to Sony support today and they say that they are working on a software fix in the next release for this very issue. However you get the sense that Sony support are just saying things to make you feel as though they are working on the issue and I am not convinced. I asked where I could track this issue it was suggested that a developer from Sony could help via this forum.
So it would be nice to have an official answer from someone at Sony on this issue please?
I have the very same problem with my X Compact and my BeoPlay H3.
I just want to know from the official side if this problem is going to be solved in the near future. Sony please give us some information!
