Fingerprint unlocking works, but password/PIN unlock required every 3 days

Even if I use the fingerprint to unlock the phone, at least every 3 days I get asked to enter the password in addition to that.

It's not a bug, it's the default way unlocking works on Android and apparently Sony didn't change it.

But I find this a bit annoying and I wish there was an option to turn this off or at least set a longer time period than 3 days.

Hi @chamye, welcome to our forum!

In some cases you will need to use the backup screen lock on your device even when you have one or more fingerprints added. Below you will find some more information on when this is the case.

  • The first time that you unlock your device after you have enabled fingerprint.
  • When your fingerprint isn't recognized after 5 tries.
  • After restarting your device.
  • When more than 72 hours have passed since you last unlocked your device using your backup screen unlock option.

I'm afraid that there is no setting in the phone to turn this off, however I can see how it could be useful to have such a setting so I will make sure to forward your thoughts on this internally as user feedback! Slightly_smiling_Face

I hope that answers your question!

A year later, I'm still constantly annoyed by this.

Any news? Has it been fixed with newer updates, perhaps?

Hi again @chamye! Slightly_smiling_Face

This has not been changed and it's the same in Android Pie as well. I'm afraid that I don't know why the decision to implement this feature was made and if this is something that is also present on other Android devices or just Xperia devices.

I'll make sure to forward your feedback again and have a nice day! Slightly_smiling_Face
