Battery drain screen usage

Is it normal for a battery to drain so quickly when the issue is the screen. I have turned the brightness right down and the screen time out to lowest time.  After 20 minutes on Google and a couple of apps, it had lost 20 % which seems a lot??

Screen needs a lot of battery power in general.

Read here about battery life.Screenshot_20180211-200128.png

If you upgraded to Android oreo is a problem of the update among others. I hope to repair those problems soon.

After this last update (Oreo A.2.19) the problem of battery drain continues not so much as before but remains the same as the problem of the light sensor on the screen is still there now seems that it improved a bit the calibration of the lighting but still at night it does not have a good criterion to the brightness and noticed that in sunlight in front of my phone the screen is over saturated with a white tone as if the colors burned and the screen seems of inferior quality. The problem of battery and screen are the two major problems that in my opinion are more important if they could be repaired as was in Nougat

Battery drain is one of the most common problems.

Best starting point is reading what Sony explains about avoiding excessive battery drain.

There is a very good post in the FAQ as well.

Know that your phone uses a lot of energy scanning for WiFi- and mobile networks, especially in areas with weak signals.

Your phone doesn't have to be online all the time. Give it some rest when the screen is black.

  • switch off WiFi scanning and Bluetooth scanning (settings->search for scanning)
  • Don't let your device search for open networks
  • Switch off WiFi during sleep (settings-> Configure WiFi)
  • Disallow WiFi roam scans (settings->developper options)

What you will notice that it takes a second to switch on WiFi after you have opened the screen.
your reward will be prolonged battery life.

There is another reward:

Nowadays in shops and public places your device will be scanned.

It is done for advertising and selling purposes. (and maybe more)

By switching of WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile networks your phone will be less visible to the outside world.

Does it help to follow these guidelines or is the power consumption still beyond an acceptable level? I´m looking for a small new phone to be used especially for podcasts and audible, some youtubes etc. and want to take it with me also for bicycle tours. I´m looking for a long battery uptime combined with an up to date system.

Me, my phone, my bike, my tent and even people in the third world are very happy with this device.

Hi @Nifo

Here are some tips

restart your device every 2 weeks

delete unused or seldom used apps

goto settings -> tap magnifying glass and search for inactive-> tap inactive apps

it shows you what is going on in the background

goto settings -> tap magnifying glass and search for consuming

it shows you which apps are consuming in the background

goto settings -> battery-> tap on advanced

it shows you use since last full charge

go to phone/dialling and dial *#*#INFO#*#* (or *#*#4636#*#*, which is the same) and tap Usage statistics

it shows either Usage time or Last time used

it helps you decide which apps you might choose to uninstall

Turn of WiFi and Bluetooth scanning

goto settings -> tap magnifying glass and search for scanning

switch off scanning

Share with us what works for you.

The usual suspect mostly is an app you installed somewhere in the recent past.

Remember: Keep your machine lean and clean.
