VGN-TX2XP - Complete Reinstall for Corpoate Setup

Hi

We've recently purchase 40 units of VGN-TX2XP for our new laptop roll out project. As such we are required to completley rebuild the laptops from scratch.

So on a test unit I've completey reformatted the drives and also removed the recovery partition.

I've got a install of Windows XP SP2 Volume License Edition installed. I've installed the correct drivers for the hardware and all seems to be working well so far.

Now it comes to the part of trying to get some of the sony utilities to work and the extra buttons/keyboard funtions FN+Key to work. For example

When pushing FN+F7 this allows you to choose of where the output mode goes for the video signal, I little gray overlay popped up with the preinstalled OS. Currently this is not working and the only way to alter this is to use options within the graphics options.

Another example is the series of buttons for AV mode, now I know that I'm never going to get the AVMode back as its some sort of a bootable linux OS, but it would be useful to have the eject button working.

I've opened up the VAIO Control Centre applet and tried to open "AV Mode Button Settings" but this just comes back with the error "Cannon Start this application"

Has anyone else bought these laptops for business use and had to do a fresh install and care to share any tips of getting some of the sony utils/fuctions working? I find it a bit odd that sony doesnt seem to cater very well for mass business use of their laptops.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Doug

Hi Doug and welcom to the forum.

The Fn button functionality requires certain Sony Utilities (downloadable from Vaio-Link).

Install:
1 Sony Utilities (installer folder1)
2 Sony Shared Library (installer folder 2)
3 Vaio Event Service (installer folder 5)
In that order, and then re-boot. You may need to repeat the procedure a couple of times before it works.

The pre-installed utilities for the TX1 series includes the' Instant On' executable but I have no idea whether this will work on your model.

Hi Rich

Thanks for the reply.

It seems the Sony shared library doesnt come with any of the zip files I downloaded for the TX2 from the support site.

Earlier on I was browsing around some forums and this guy had posted a link (http://www.djvagon.co.uk/sonyhotkeyutility.html) the rar file he suppled has the Shared Library.

Once this was installed the Eject and FN+key now work fine 😃

I'm not sure if this is a accident on sony's part not to include this shared library pack in any of the zip files they offer. But it sure is a show stopper

Do you know what the current version is? The version I found is 2.08.00.03080XP

Thanks

Doug

Hi Doug,

Sony Shared Library is most certainly there, in pre-installed utilities Installer folder 2, and the version is 2.10.00.01250XP. Maybe there was a glitch with your download:smileyconfused:

I can e-mail if needs be - folder size approx 1.8Mb.

EDIT: Try opening the downloaded file with Winrar - this should give better details of the contents.
