Hello,
Do you know if my VGN-S5HP is comiliant with Windows Vista ?
I can't find any information about that...
Thank you in advance.
No "official" specs have been released by Microsoft, so it's difficult to make an official judgement
If you have 1GB of RAM and a decent processor you'll do fine
if you go on the American Sony website and look at the new range of laptops on there; they market them as 'Windows Vista-Capable' where they are.
I don't know if the S5-range is detailed on there as I was looking at SZ1s at the time, but have a look... (for an 'official' word on it).
I gather that the graphica card is an essential element to optimum Vista performance; as is an Intel Core Duo processor. But I would be very surprised if the S5HP had any problem running it all (even though it may not be 'optimum').
Incidentally, when you ograde your operating system, do Microsoft supply a sticker so you can add it to your compuer which would now have the outdated 'Designed for Windows XP' sticker?
I'm a Vista beta tester. I have a S5M, and it works fine. The only problems with the ctp right now is:
-You don't have all the Function keys, as the drivers from Sony don't seem to work yet. This is not Microsoft problem, and Sony should provide the drivers.... someday.
-The graphics card (NVidia Geforce 6400 Go) doesn't have official drivers from Nvidia yet. This is really strange, because the 6200 has, so you have to use the drivers from the Beta 1, which don't make use of DWM. Don't worry because this should be fixed for the Beta 2, due next month... This graphic card has support for Shaders 3.0, so it's gonna be a very good computer to run Vista in.
-About the memory, 512 MB seems to be enough right now. It runs fast - the February CTP was a little bit slow, but the next two we had were a very good improvement -. In the end, if you need more memory is only a question of what you'll use your lap for. Vista is more optimized than XP, and that can be seen easily. You can use your flash USB memory too as a cheap solution sometimes.
If you have any more questions, just ask.
Ok, so I am ready to install the Vista beta on my S5....
Thanks a lot for your prompt answer
