Not too long ago I bought myself a Vaio FE41E and I´m quite happy about it. Recently I´ve done some experimenting with virtual servers to try out Ubuntu. I´m now about to install Ubuntu as a second OS on my system. However, before doing so I have a few questions so I don´t get in trouble if I ever want to go back.
If you install Ubuntu on another partition you get a bootloader to choose your OS at startup.
I browsed in the Ubuntu forums and if you want to get back to one OS you need to run the vista recovery cd/dvd and load fixmbr to get rid of the bootloader. Afterwards you can delete the Ubuntu partition.
Since I don´t have a recovery cd, how would I revert the installation of Ubuntu and get rid of the bootloader? Is there a way to run that fixmbr program without the recovery disk?
Also, why didn´t Sony give a vista recovery cd/dvd with the purchase of my laptop? Aren´t they supposed to do that since you do pay for a valid license?
And what if my system for one reason crashes, how would I be able to restore it?
Hi Noneedforanick,
Welcome to Club vaio..
You can create a Sony recovery disc set by going to Start > All Programs > Vaio Recovery Tool > Vaio Recovery Utiltiy..
Here is Sony's guide on the process , however it may be slightly different on your Vaio..
It may worth creating a couple sets just to be on the safe side..
