TV tuner help needed!

Right, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here but I've just bought an A317S with mutlimedia dock, which includes a TV tuner.

Extremely happy with every aspect so far but I just can't get the TV tuner working. When I try to launch TV from VAIO Media it says that I need to register my pc with the server, but as my pc is effectively acting as the server as well I can't do this.

The instructions says there's no problem with doing it this way but doesnt tell me how to set my pc up as both 'client' and 'server'. I can't get it to tune in any tv stations without first doing this - does anyone have any ideas what I'm missing here as it's starting to drive me up the wall!!!

Thanks!!

Do you have a Firewall ???

If YES, we can say... or i am almost 100% sure... is the firewall.

Just disable the firewall some minutes e do the registration again.

When not... take a look at Vaio Media Console which Server are there and post again here.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I've now turned off both my McAffee firewall & my Windows firewall & tried it but still no joy....

It may be that I'm not following the correct procedure but this is what's happening - when I launch VAIO Zone I initially see a TV option but when I select it a new window launches that has no TV option. So I then try VAIO Media & when I select TV it says 'looking for servers' then says 'cannot find any server' & gives me an option to register device. When I try this is scans for 5 minutes then says no response received. This isn't exactly surprising as it's only me & my laptop, there's no other computers around for it to receive a response from!

Really not sure what else to try.....any ideas???

Thanks again.....

I have an A217S and getting the TV to work was very straight forward. You use Vaio Zone to watch TV on your Laptop. Vaio Media is for networking content. You don't need to touch Vaio Media if it is just you watching TV on your A317S.

The first time you run Vaio Zone it should scan for new channels. If you need to scan again you should click the spanner icon, top right when Zone is running, click on TV , then Add and then Tune.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, I've since realised that I don't need to be using Vaio Media, it was just that Vaio Zone wouldn't let me access the TV tuner. I've run a system restore back to when I first got the PC and the tuner works fine then, however when I come back to present restore point it just keeps telling me that the TV tuner isn't connected, which it is.

I don't have any spanner icon so guess I'm going to have to accept that I'm going to have to roll back my PC & configure everything again. Bit of a nuisance but could be worse I suppose, at least I know it works OK

Cheers again for your help:smileyhappy:

i am also using a317s, its very simple.. all you need is to plug in the tv /antenna cable into your docking.. then click on tv on the vaio luncher.. and its should be start searching for the tv frequancy/programme automatically.

Yes I now have it working OK!

The problem is because I originally had stopped the scan process as I didnt have my aerial plugged in at the time & for some reason it wouldnt try to scan again. Using system restore fixed this problem though.

Does anyone know how I can reassign the channel numbers though as they're all over the place!

Thanks
