hi
i need to know how to shut down the onboard sound to install a sound card

i cant seem to do it via device manager
i cant seem to unistall the drivers either

Ben,

Normally there's a jumper on the motherboard, have a quick look in the manual.

my sony book tells me nothing and the sound card tells me that i have to disable the onboard sound and tells me that i should consult my computers documentation which says nothing about disableing the sound


i can disable the sound via my bios but would that disable the new sound card i wan to install???????

No, disabling the sound on the BIOS will only disable the on-board chip.

i installed and have true 5.1 digital not alot proberly not much better than the mother board sound but i can now have surround and eax which sounds good....

so everything is now sweet thanks again for your help

No problem, now DVDs will sound better.
