Sony secrets

Hi

The 816s has a free unused mini-pci slot - would it be possible to install my own wireless card in it? It also looks like the graphic card can be upgraded...

So here they are: http://www.rowemadhouse.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55

Go there - all the pics and info is there.

As the reviewer said, the upgrade of the video card would have to be looked into at a later date, and I assume would depend on how or who Sony used for their video card manufacturer (ie. do they do better cards in the same format etc).

I would never do that to my VAIO though (take it apart that is).

hah - yeah me too, but I know plenty of people that do it  [edit..okay that's a bit of an exaggeration]

Also the guy who made the review is highly qualified to open his laptop up.

I don't get it - why do sony leave an extra mini pci slot lying around, they could have made use of it?

that slot seems to be fully functional....

now picture this... you could add a mini-pci wlan card... you could open up the display (TFT) frame an wrap the the wlan antenna around the display and "voila" you have intergrated wlan networking.

but now comes the tough part... what if sony has set the bios to reject a wlan card or any other card that is inserted into the slot... except for the ones that sony uses... but then sony won't sell you any card because they figure if you want intergrated wlan then buy an newer model notebook.

why doesn't SONY talk to their customers... all they would have to do is to post information of the products they sell.
