Service Pack 2 for windows XP

i have trouble with my vaio, i have an K115Z, and after i installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, i canoot clock my processor down, it is running opn his full 3.06 ghz all the time, and that is completly not necassary when watchin a DVD, or such a thing, and my accu is working about an hour on 3.06 ghz, but on degrade, i can work much longer (400 MHZ), however, this function does not work after i installed XP2, is there a patch, or is there anything i can do to make it work again?

I think UTILS.EXE can reinstall it for you. You find this in C:\UTILS.

it cant, Vaio Powermanagement works, but he doesnt do shit, still, in the win-fn-insert screen, there stands 3.06 ghz, no mather what, and not the clocked back processor speed, i can say to do adaptice, or full, or batery life, or degrade, it just doesnt affect the speed

Could XP now be wrongly reporting the CPU speed?

This happened to me when I upgraded my processor until I upgraded my bios (Vaio GRX).

I looked at the available updates for your model on VaioLink and there appear to be no SP2 related updates.

There is however a bios update:smileycry: which may help.

Unless there is a more obvious solution there are (at the moment) two options:

Uninstall SP2

Try the bios update.

Hmm Intel have a lot to answer for with this one. Intel incorporated SpeedStep technology into Windows XP. Its job is to adapt the CPU speed to system temperature and workload.

To slow down the CPU, ensure that on the taskbar you firstly have the power icon, and that you use something other than Always On. Always On is designed to get the highest possible performance out of the CPU - and by default has no native power options set either.

Here is a LINK for Intel SpeedStep and a driver.

James,

Your link is to Pentium 3 processors?
