Hi, I recently bought the Vaio AW-31 M monster laptop, but it came with 32 bit Vista, so I am not fully taking advantage of my 4GB RAM. For the windows 7 upgrade, will I receive both the 32 bit and 64 bit installation discs? Because I want to install the 64 bit version.
Will I be able to do this with the upgrade CD I'll receive from Sony?
Thanks for your help.
Hi bakoy and welcome.
The Sony 'free' upgrade is an 'IN PLACE UPGRADE' and there is no upgrade path from 32 to 64-bit.
You will only get the equivalent version you have now - Vista Home Premium 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.
For any upgrade to another version (Pro or Ultimate) or another language or from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice-versa) you will need to buy a retail upgrade version from PC World, Currys or Amazon.

Welcome to Club Vaio.

Hey, thanks for your answer! Do you think it'll be worth it to buy the 62bit version?
Cheers
This is the same issue i was having with the so called free upgrade! I was only getting a 32bit windows 7, which does not use my 4gb ram (which i will upgrade to 8gb) so i decided to purchase Windows 7 64bit from microsoft with student discount.. For anything more then 4gb ram its better to get a 64bit... I have a NW11z/t which the newer models ship with Win 7 64bit so i was able to easly get all the drivers from those models on the support page. Now i have a fully running Vaio with windows 7 64bit and no driver issues.
