So it was working, you took your memory out, put it back in and now it doesn't work?

I would think it would be impossible to insert the memory the wrong way round due to the cutout, especially if you can do the clips up.

Have you checked for debris in the slot or tried the memory in the second slot?

Have tries swapping slots and made sure that there is nothing in the slots. The green ac power light comes on but nothing else, if I press the on/off switch the battery light comes on whilst the key is depresed?

Doesn't sound good, maybe static zapped something.

Apart from trying different memory sounds like a repair.

Just curious why did you remove the memory if it was working OK?

Another thing you may wish to try is using a pencil eraser (the soft rubber type) on the gold contacts - never, ever touch these contacts with your bare hands - it coats them in a layer of oil which is hard to remove later on.

Pressing lightly on the rubber you will be able to remove any surface dirt from the memory module. Make sure the memory module is clean before reinserting it into the PC.

Also try using compressed air to clean the slots. Never blow into the slots as you will leave a fine layer of spit which will ruin the memory card slots.

Its worth trying the above first, for all I agree with William here, its better to have a go at this before sending it to Sony. At least you know you've done all you can. Note that Sony are very slow with repairs - it could take upwards of 6 weeks or more for the repair to take place.
