PCG-GRX516MD DO THE USB PORTS SUPPORT USB 2 ?

Hi Folks

Im thinking about buying the SONY DCR-SR90E (CAMCORDER)

New baby coming in June (1st baby)

http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/8-564220/Camcorders/Sony-DCR-SR90E-Product-Info

It requires USB2.0

I was looking at nthe specs for my Laptop , but I cannot find whether its USB1.0 or 2.0

If its 1.0 , is there anything I can do ?

Just wannay make sure I can transfer easily 🙂

Cheers

Jimmy

Hi jguilfoy,

I have a feeling that your model only supports USB full / low speed (USB 1.0).

If I am correct on this then the solution is a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card. A Google will provide a number of suppliers but I personally reccomend (and am using) Belkin.

Best wishes for the new baby - enjoy

Your'e very welcome jguilfoy

If you do decide on the Belkin PCMCIA card then on installation make sure that you use the Beklkin drivers as the native Windows drives will cause havoc! Also you may find updated Belkin drivers with a search on the home site.

Hi Rich

I must admit I never trust the plug n play aspect of XP or 2K.

I always , install the drivers , then install the HW.

Now wondering about the camcorder as some peoplehave told me CAMCORDERS with HDD are that great....its just a minefiled......maybe I should go for one with a DV , would you know if those little DVD play in a normal DVD player ?

Cheers

You are moving away from my field of experience here, but if it is an 80mm disk then there should be no problem.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of camcorders can better advise...

The thing with HDD is that they're only really able to hold around 30GB at the moment, so I would stick to DV as it's pretty good quality wise, plus you have a tape as backup alongside the hard disk copy when you transfer to VAIO.

DV cams usually have iLink, which means no need for a PCMICA card.
