OT: Sony Software's hacking methods of total user control

Sony distributes Digital Rights Managment Software on its (crippled) Audio-CD's which upon installation takes up rootkit behaviour. This means the software integrates extremely deep into windows to completely hide the software from the user (Files, Running Tasks, Registry Entries). Usually Software with such behaviour is considered malware, as such techniques are usually only used by hackers and/or other criminals.

Ummm I did that article already and it is only in the US and MS have a patch to remove it in Decembers updates and Sony have stopped using it now (for at least a month LOL). Pretty shamefull stuff but to be fair to Sony it was the work of some bright spark from another firm who was commissioned by Sony BMG to deal with pirates. So why didn't they release it in Thailand????

Sony should've checked out their software before releasing it upon millions of customers. This stuff doesn't stop professional pirates, they have lots of ways to duplicate and distribute product - all it does is inconvenience and potentially damage Sony's honest customers.

Looks like Sony will end up with a lot fewer customers after all this.

I agree Rob, so I won't be buying any Sony CDs in the future.
Thankfully most of it is on iTunes
