More than recommended RAM?

I have a Sony R600HFPD, Sony say the max total RAM is 384mb, thats 128mb on-board, and 256 chip.

But the next model up has 512mb total, and i think can take even more. Would there be a danger if i try to put a bigger RAM in the laptop? I was thinking 512mb

No it's probably not dangerous, except to the RAM. The most likely scenario is you will shortly have some smoking bits of scrap where RAM used to be.

Which could in turn damage the slots, making the laptop useless.

It damages the slots? Really? I must have got lucky when I created some smoking scrap RAM. And my FAQ sig doesn't seem to be working lol.

It can do, not always every time, but it can.

I know, it's annoying isn't it? I wish people would read.

So there is definitly a risk of damaging hardware?

😞 384 isnt bad i guess

Well it is really, you would struggle to run XP on 384mb of RAM. However until you actually need more I wouldn't worry too much.

I didn't say you can't  . Multi tasking must be slow though I'm usually running at least 5 programs simultaneously and it can chug a bit on 512

It can run 7 without too much hassle.
